Candy for Breakfast!
Just before Halloween, I elbowed my way through last-minute shoppers on the candy aisle at Walmart. Pausing in front of the large mixed packages with 3 or 4 different types of sweets, I sighed aloud. None of them, not a single one, included miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!
Dejected, I went with the next best thing: a bag of Rolos, Kit Kats, and Reese’s Pieces. But those Reese’s Pieces just aren’t the same… I can’t nibble off all of the chocolate and let it melt on my tongue before biting into the peanut butter, not with that thin candy coating shell instead!
On the long drive home, I ripped open one of the fun-sized packages and popped a candy into my mouth. As it dissolved, I realized Reese’s Pieces might not be the same—they might be better! With a greater peanut-butter-to-chocolate ratio, they disappeared before any trick-or-treaters even rang the doorbell… And I’ve been dreaming up different peanut butter and chocolate concoctions ever since!
Chocolate and Peanut Butter (Just-Like-Reese’s!) Oatmeal
serves 1
For a sweeter and nuttier breakfast, use the larger amounts of sugar and peanut butter. For peanut allergies, substitute almond or cashew butter instead.
⅓ c. old-fashioned oats
⅔ c. water
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2-3 tsp truvia or granulated sugar
1-2 tsp peanut butter
- Combine the oats, water, cocoa, and sugar in a medium bowl. Cook according to the oatmeal container’s directions. Stir in the peanut butter after cooking, and let the oatmeal sit and thicken for 1-2 min before eating.

Oatmeal reminiscent of dessert is always a winner in my book, and who can resist the perfect combination that is chocolate and peanut butter. A favorite of mine includes a tablespoon of dutch cocoa powder and a dash of vanilla. It’s just like brownies in a bowl!

That was pretty much exactly what I had for breakfast this morning, only I also crumbled a double chocolate chip cookie on top, too! Shameless to still call it breakfast, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. 🙂

Now that’s what I call breakfast! As I read I mentally checked off the ingredients… and I have them all, of course. I may just have to make this for breakfast tomorrow, and I’m sure my daughter won’t mind one bit.

I hope you enjoy it! I ate it multiple days in a row, I liked it so much. Some days I added more cocoa, others more PB, and still others more sugar. It’s really all how you’re feeling!
